Dayne Hopes For Success In Pairing With Green
Sunday, July 29, 2007
HOUSTON (AP) - Ron Dayne and Tiki Barber were supposed to be a dangerous combination of speed and power when they paired for the New York Giants in 2000. There was even a poster proclaiming the duo "Thunder and Lightning."
The experiment worked for a while, but Dayne soon fell out of favor in New York and has since been released by both the Giants and the Broncos.
But the Heisman Trophy winner revived his career by leading Houston in rushing last season. Now he's hoping he and first-year Texan Ahman Green can form a new and improved version of "Thunder and Lightning."
The key to the plan working in Houston will be the 245-pound Dayne proving his durability. He missed five games last season with injuries, and it's been five years since he appeared in all 16 games in a season.
Dayne was disappointed at first when Green signed because it meant he wouldn't be starting. Now he's looking at the bright side of going in after Green has been running at -- and wearing down -- the defense.
