Packers Don't Tag Ahman Green
Thursday, February 22, 2007
The deadline for NFL free agent tags came and went. That means the Packers will have to bid against other teams for running back Ahman Green if they don't re-sign him by next Friday.
A franchise tag would have guaranteed Green $7 million, while a transition tag would have been worth $6 million for the upcoming season.
General Manager Ted Thompson still has seven days of exclusive negotiating rights before the Packers' soon-to-be free agents hit the open market.
Green would be one of the top running backs in free agency. He bounced back from a thigh injury to rush for more than 1,000 yards for the sixth time in his career.
