Ahman Green Trying Rugby?
Wednesday, October 23, 2013
Green Bay Packers all-time rushing leader and former Nebraska Cornhusker running back Ahman Green is at the Olympic Training Center to play 7s, according to a tweet from USA Rugby CEO Nigel Melville.
“Welcome to the Olympic Training Center @AhmanGreen30,” tweeted Melville. “look forward to you playing Rugby 7's this week!”
While this will be Green’s first public foray into rugby, it’s not the first time he’s flirted with the sport. Green, 36, was in conversation with USA Rugby during Al Caravelli’s tenure as 7s coach, when he was playing with the UFL’s Omaha Nighthawks.
Green, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, last played professional football in 2010 for Omaha. His last year in the NFL was 2009. He signed with a Canadian Football League team in 2011 but was cut after failing his physical.
Is Green for real about making the 7s team? Tough to tell, but it doesn’t appear he’s trying to sell a book like Maurice Clarett was when he flirted with Tiger Rugby.
